You’ll still get to explore hidden parts of the Cornish coast, discover sea caves and gullies, and try a few cliff jumps — but everything is tailored to a gentler pace. The jumps are capped at 5 metres, and like all of our trips, there’s no pressure to jump unless you want to. These sessions also run at low tide, which means less swimming (often the most tiring part of coasteering) and more options to walk around or above rougher sections if needed.
The minimum age for coasteering is 9 years old. Please let us know if you have younger members in your group, especially in rougher conditions. No prior experience is required, but a basic level of swimming ability is essential. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Our standard
Coasteering in West Cornwall sessions are open to all (providing minimum age is met), but you might prefer to join a beginner session if:
-
You’ve never been coasteering and aren’t sure if it’s for you
-
You want to avoid the highest jumps
-
You’d rather join a slower-paced group without pressure
-
You’re looking for a more relaxed adventure than a high-adrenaline challenge
-
You have young participants (e.g. 9 or 10 years old)
-
You’re concerned about your fitness or swimming abilit

Coasteering for Beginners guide — a great starting point if you’re new to the sport.
We run these sessions at Praa Sands (TR20 9TQ), one of the best coasteering spots in Cornwall. The route is full of variety and natural features, and we’ve been coasteering here since 2014 — no provider has more experience in the area. As well as offering excellent coasteering, Praa Sands has a long sandy beach and all the facilities you could need: cafes, restaurants, parking, shops, and watersports hire.
In rare cases, adverse weather may mean we use an alternative location — we’ll contact you in advance if this happens.
Inclusions
What's Included
🍴 Food - You may want a snack on hand for when you've finished coasteering. However, there are numerous cafes, restaurants and kiosks at Praa Sands.
🧰 Equipment - We provide you with a good quality winter wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid.
What you'll need
📋 Other - All of our guests need to bring some trainers or wetsuit boots to wear into the water. This is mandatory, and it is not possible to take part without footwear. You also need to bring an extra pair of shorts that can be worn over the wetsuit that we provide. The shorts give you some extra padding, and protect our wetsuits from damage by the barnacles. Finally, you also need to bring your swimwear and a towel.
